Community Grieves Loss of Bryson Burks, Beloved Son Gone Too Soon

Heartbreak has struck the close-knit community, as residents mourn the devastating loss of 19-year-old Bryson Burks. Bryson tragically passed away on December 18th, just hours shy of his 20th birthday.

In an emotional public statement, Bryson’s mother Chris Johnson Burks expressed unfathomable grief over her son’s premature death. “My sweet baby boy Bryson went to be with his daddy and his lord and savior in heaven late last night…I can’t live without my beautiful boy. I just can’t find more words at this time,” she wrote.

Chris described being surrounded by Bryson’s caring friends in the aftermath of this profound tragedy. However, she remains utterly distraught, saying “I will never be alright again.”

By all accounts, Bryson Burks was a bright light in his community – a beloved friend, family member and change-maker gone far too soon. He attended [HIGH SCHOOL] where teachers remembered his kindness and leadership qualities. Bryson even founded the Kidney Head Foundation to honor his late father and raise awareness about kidney health.

Two-Sport Star Bryson Burks Overcomes All Odds to Fulfill College Dreams

When 19-year-old Bryson Burks put pen to paper on his dual college commitment for football and baseball, it marked the culmination of a dream long deferred but never abandoned. Through adversity that would have derailed lesser spirits, Bryson persevered to forge his path as a two-sport collegiate athlete.

From childhood, sports were encoded into Bryson’s DNA. He has vivid memories playing catch on Ole Miss game days with his late father, a former college tight end. His mother, a devout baseball fan, had Bryson swinging a bat as soon as he could walk.

But Bryson’s journey faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Around age 10, he battled intense seizures that reached up to 40 per day. Other health issues forced stints of homeschooling and withdrawal from sports. He experienced bullying over rapid weight gain that led to career-threatening injuries.

Still, Bryson refused to relinquish his burning passion for sports. He recounted how one coach advised him to quit following his dad’s passing, convinced Bryson lacked the talent. “I took it in stride and worked harder when nobody was looking,”┬áBryson said.

Through sheer perseverance and faith, the Texas native overcame every hurdle. He lost over 100 pounds, rehabbed diligently and bet on himself when nobody else would. Bryson even moved states halfway through high school for a fresh start to chase his dreams.

On commitment day, Bryson’s unrelenting belief was rewarded at last. In an emotional speech, he thanked his biggest supporters – his devoted mother and God. Bryson credited his mother’s immense sacrifices to drive him 10+ hours weekly to reach this moment. He also emphasized God’s essential role, without whom Bryson would just be “a kid with a dream.”

Bryson also expressed profound appreciation for his late father’s enduring influence and inspiration. He wished his dad could see him achieve their shared dream while wearing his collegiate number.

After years battling naysayers insisting Bryson wasn’t good enough, this extraordinary young man can now proudly call himself a two-sport college athlete. His stirring journey of overcoming illness, doubt and loss should motivate all dreamers facing daunting odds.

Just as Bryson proudly represents his family name in sports, so too does he represent the human capacity to achieve the improbable through faith, courage and perseverance.

Tragically, Bryson was intimately familiar with the grief of losing a parent. His father Brett passed away previously from kidney disease, leading a devastated Bryson to channel his sorrow into altruistic action through the Kidney Head Foundation.

Now the community Bryson uplifted so often must find some way to uplift his grieving mother. Local resident Janice Mills summed up the somber mood, writing:

Please pray for my sweet friend, Chris Johnson Burks…I know Chris is hurting immeasurably right now and only God can give her any peace.”

As Chris herself declared, she will never fully recover from the anguish of losing her only beloved son. In her time of need, may Bryson’s caring spirit surround his mother through the outpouring of compassion from everyone he inspired.

Though nothing can fill the void left behind when a child leaves this world, Bryson Burks made the most of his tragically abbreviated life. In just 19 years, he lit up his community as a selfless friend and dedicated activist. The loss may be immeasurable, but so too was Bryson’s positive impact.

May his memory be a blessing to all those who loved him.
