Joe Long Obituary, MT Gilead, Ohio, Cherished NAtive Has Tragically Passed

Joe Long Obituary, Death – Jack L. Long, 85, of Mount Gilead died Friday morning, April 8, 2022, surrounded by his beloved family at home. Jack, one of six children of Coral Long and Libby (Hershner) Nufer, was born in Edison, Ohio, on May 19, 1936. He graduated from Mount Gilead High in 1954. Jack married his soulmate, Marilyn M. Long, at Trinity United Methodist Church on June 30, 1956. She died on January 20, 2001, after 45 glorious years of marriage. Longtime Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church member Jack was devout. Though silent, he loved his faith.

Jack was an HPM Mount Gilead erector for almost 40 years. He was a charter member of the Morrow County Antique Tractor and Equipment Association and a longtime Special Deputy Sheriff. Jack loved guns. He constantly read gun, hunting, and reloading articles. He knew firearms well. He liked guitar too. He rarely played for large groups, but often for friends. Jack was family-oriented. He was always nice, attentive, and gentlemanly. He loved reminiscing and respected our nation and its soldiers.

Still to cherish Jack remembers his three sons: Jack (Doreen) Long, Ron (Linda) Long, John (Christine) Long, all of Mount Gilead; eight grandchildren: Heather, Jay (Sarah), Heidi (James), Joe (Sarah), John (Amber), Casey (Erin), Kaitlyn, Colton; 14 great-grandchildren: Aaron, James, Abbie, Emily, Libby, Boone, Emma, Chloe, Olivia, Wyatt, Adriana, Adaline, Amelia, Evelyn, and Theodor

His wife and parents predeceased him, as did his five siblings, Elmer, Galen, Salo, Angela, and Sam “Forrest,” his granddaughter, Jennie, and his cousins, John “Toad” and Ronald, who were like brothers. Jack’s family will receive friends at Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. His life will be commemorated at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Leslie Mahaney. Rivercliff Cemetery will have burial.

Jack’s family wants to thank Dr. Freundlich, Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Hintz, and Hospice of Morrow County for their excellent care of Jack.
